Exciting news for rail travelers! Keretapi Tanah Melayu’s (KTM) Electric Train Service (ETS) is finally set to roll into Johor Bahru starting December 12, with the official launch taking place a day earlier on December 11. The event will be graced by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Johor.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke shared that the shorter distance between Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru allows for more frequent services. “If the route is longer, like heading north, we can only operate two trips a day, one up, one down. But for KL–JB, we can run more often,” he said at a recent press conference.

KTM confirms that there will be four daily trips between KL Sentral and JB Sentral to start. Don’t worry, the plan is to add more trips as additional ETS3 trainsets roll in. So, if you’ve been itching for a convenient, comfortable ride to the southern capital, now’s your chance!

Right now, four out of the 10 ETS3 trainsets have passed their final inspections, received certification, and are ready to hit the tracks. Services from JB heading north will be rolled out in stages, depending on infrastructure readiness and train availability.

Tickets are expected to sell fast, so stay tuned for the booking window, especially with year-end travel on the horizon. Whether it’s for work, family, or a quick weekend getaway, the ETS promises a smooth and speedy journey from KL to Johor Bahru.
