The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has unveiled the JPJePlate, a specialized license plate designed for zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs), including electric vehicles (EVs). According to a report by Malaysia Gazette, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook announced that the introduction of JPJePlate is part of a two-pronged strategy aimed at providing additional incentives to promote the use of ZEVs and EVs while advancing digitization efforts.
“The implementation of JPJePlate represents the government’s commitment to enhancing digitization, improving road safety, and evolving the smart vehicle identification system (Vehicle Identification System – VIS).” “This initiative will be applied to new ZEVs, including newly registered electric vehicles (EVs),” he said.

JPJePlate comes with new standards for road safety and efficiency, offering several key benefits, including:
Enhanced Visibility: Featuring retro-reflective properties, JPJePlate improves nighttime visibility, which helps reduce accidents and enhances driving safety, while also aiding in enforcement efforts.
Security Features: The number plate includes an anti-cloning hologram to minimize the risk of theft and fraud. It also facilitates easy identification of electric vehicles, ensuring that appropriate safety protocols are followed during emergencies.
Smart Technology and Enforcement: By integrating RFID technology through the Intelligent Transport System (ITS), JPJePlate supports a more connected and advanced transport network.

Additionally, JPJePlate features a white plate board with white lettering, complemented by a green stripe that denotes electric vehicles and displays the Malaysian flag. While existing ZEVs are not required to switch to JPJePlate, interested owners can purchase a JPJePlate set for RM98 starting in November.
“This price covers the front plate, rear plate, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) mirror sticker, and standard delivery. Our current focus is to ensure a smooth rollout of JPJePlate for new ZEVs. The Ministry of Transport encourages public feedback on this initiative,” he added.
