Chinese automaker Geely has been quite active recently, with reports highlighting new variants of the Binyue and Emgrand models, which serve as the foundations for the Proton X50 and X70 respectively. More recently, the company has officially launched its second-generation Boyue model.
Those familiar with the Boyue will recall that the first-generation model served as the basis for the popular Proton X70 C-segment crossover SUV. As we await the upcoming facelift of the Boyue, it now has a new ‘relative’ in China with the introduction of this second-generation model.
First revealed last year, the all-new second-generation Boyue has recently received some updates for the 2024 model year, showcasing a refreshed design. This new iteration features sharper and more eye-catching styling, including distinctive dot-matrix through-type lights.

Depending on the variant, the Boyue offers various notable touches such as a two-tone color scheme, black aerokit, 19-inch black wheels, and red-painted brake calipers. Despite its bold redesign, the dimensions of the second-generation Boyue are similar to those of its predecessor, measuring 4,510 mm in length, 1,865 mm in width, 1,650 mm in height, and with a 2,701 mm wheelbase.
Beneath the surface, the second-gen Boyue incorporates Geely’s new GEEA2.0 electronic and electrical architecture. This platform supports a range of advanced technologies, including an array of active driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as active braking, lane-keeping and lane-centering assist, traffic sign recognition, and more.
The second-generation Boyue also introduces a refreshed cabin and dashboard layout. The dashboard features a 10.25-inch digital LCD instrument panel and a 13.2-inch portrait-oriented central touchscreen infotainment system. This system boasts a 2K resolution and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip along with the Galaxy 2.0 operating system, offering extensive connectivity options including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and 4G mobile network.
Among the premium features available—depending on the variant—are a wireless charging pad, a powered tailgate, and an Infinity premium audio system, which is reportedly exclusive to the top-end model.

In terms of powertrain, the second-generation Boyue differs from the current Proton X70 by not using the familiar 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine. Instead, the Chinese market version of the Boyue is equipped with a 1.8-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine, producing 181 hp and 290 Nm of torque.
This engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and is reported to deliver a WLTC-rated fuel economy of 6.29 litres per 100 km. Additionally, the powertrain offers four selectable drive modes: Economy, Comfort, Sports, and Smart.
The new second-generation Geely Boyue starts at approximately US$18,000 in its domestic Chinese market, which is roughly equivalent to RM84,870.
