A New Era of Electric Driving Begins
Proton has officially unveiled its newest electric hatchback — the eMas 5, marking a major step forward in Malaysia’s transition toward electrified mobility. Priced from just RM56,800 for the Prime variant and RM69,800 for the Premium, the eMas 5 proudly carries the title of Malaysia’s most affordable electric vehicle.
To make things even more exciting, Proton is offering an introductory rebate of RM3,000 for both variants until 31 December 2025, bringing the price down to RM56,800 (Prime) and RM69,800 (Premium) on-the-road without insurance.
At launch, Proton will begin deliveries with the Premium variant, while the Prime will follow soon after. This compact EV made its first public appearance when it was previewed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the ASEAN Summit, and it now officially joins the eMas 7 as Proton’s second fully electric vehicle.

Compact Yet Spacious – Designed for Urban Malaysians
Built for city lifestyles, the eMas 5 offers compact proportions with plenty of everyday practicality. Measuring 4,135 mm long, 1,805 mm wide, and 1,580 mm tall, the eMas 5 features a 2,650 mm wheelbase that maximizes interior space. With 160 mm of ground clearance, it also handles uneven Malaysian roads with ease.
The Prime weighs 1,230 kg, while the Premium comes in slightly heavier at 1,305 kg due to its larger battery and extra equipment.
In terms of looks, the eMas 5 stays true to Proton’s new modern and minimalistic design language — featuring a clean front fascia, futuristic lighting signature, and sleek proportions. The Prime variant comes with 15-inch steel wheels, while the Premium gets 16-inch alloy wheels with unique “D-pad” inspired spokes and a contrasting black roof for a sportier, two-tone appeal.
Colour options include:
- Moonstone White
- Graphite Silver
- Slate Grey
- Marble Cream(Premium exclusive)
- Quartz Rose(Premium exclusive)

Two Power Options, One Efficient Platform
Both the Prime and Premium variants share a rear-wheel drive layout — making the eMas 5 Proton’s second-ever RWD car after the Juara. Under the hood, both versions use CATL lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries known for their stability, durability, and cost-efficiency.
Here’s the breakdown:
| Variant | Power Output | Torque | Battery | Range (WLTP) | 0–50 km/h |
| Prime | 79 PS (58 kW) | 130 Nm | 30.12 kWh | 225 km | 4.4 seconds |
| Premium | 116 PS (85 kW) | 150 Nm | 40.16 kWh | 325 km | 3.9 seconds |
While its acceleration is modest, the eMas 5 focuses on smooth, silent operation and efficient city driving — exactly what urban Malaysians need for their daily commutes.
Fast Charging and Smart Features
The eMas 5 supports both AC and DC charging, ensuring compatibility with Malaysia’s expanding EV infrastructure.
- Prime: Up to 53 kW DC fast charging
- Premium: Up to 71 kW DC fast charging
- Charging time (DC): 30–80% in just 21 minutes
- AC charging: 6.6 kW wallbox (4.3 hours for Prime / 5.9 hours for Premium)
Proton has also added Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing owners to power external devices directly from the car — whether it’s charging a laptop, running a small fan, or powering a picnic setup outdoors.

Inside the Cabin – Modern, Minimal, and Malaysian
Step inside, and you’ll be greeted with one of the most futuristic interiors ever seen in a Proton. Front and centre is a massive 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen running on Atlas OS, paired with an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display.
Both variants come equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the built-in “Hi eMas” voice assistant recognizes both English and Bahasa Malaysia commands — from adjusting the air-conditioning to navigating EV chargers through the integrated live charging map.
Connectivity is well thought out: there are USB-A and USB-C ports up front, with the Premium adding an additional rear USB-A port for passengers.
Interior upholstery is finished in Flint Grey synthetic leather as standard, while Alabaster White is available exclusively on Premium units painted in Marble Cream or Quartz Rose.
The Premium variant further adds:
- Powered tailgate
- Leather-wrapped steering wheel
- Six speakers
- 360° surround camera with 3D display
- Chrome exterior detailing

Space and Practicality
The eMas 5 may be small on the outside, but it’s surprisingly roomy inside. Rear passengers enjoy up to 890 mm of legroom, while the rear doors open a wide 65 degrees for easy access — great for family use.
Cargo space is generous:
- 375 litres of rear boot capacity
- 1,320 litres with rear seats folded
- 70 litres of front trunk (frunk) space
- Plus, extra hidden compartments under the rear seats and centre console
These thoughtful touches make the eMas 5 not only efficient, but also practical for everyday life — whether you’re a student, young professional, or small family.

Safety First, Always
Proton has equipped the eMas 5 with a comprehensive suite of safety systems. Standard features include:
- Six airbags (front, side, curtain)
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
- Traction Control System (TCS)
- Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control
- Rear parking sensors
- Tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS)
The Premium variant adds a full Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) with 12 intelligent safety functions, including:
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Stop & Go

Built for the Future
The eMas 5 is currently fully imported (CBU), but Proton has confirmed that local assembly (CKD) will soon commence at its Tanjung Malim plant, ensuring better local supply and pricing stability in the near future.
The vehicle is protected by:
- 6-year unlimited mileage warranty (vehicle)
- 8-year / 160,000 km battery and EV component warranty
This long coverage demonstrates Proton’s confidence in its EV technology and aims to reassure customers making their first switch from petrol to electric.
